Abstract

A novel energy-efficient Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS)-relay network for information transmission systems (IT’S) operating over Nakagami-m fading channels. The IRS elements are intelligently deployed to optimize energy consumption while enhancing signal propagation. By strategically placing IRS elements and utilizing relay nodes, we achieve significant improvements in signal quality and energy efficiency. We formulate an optimization problem to jointly optimize the IRS element phases and relay node locations to maximize the system's energy efficiency. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme in enhancing the system's performance under Nakagami-m fading channels, showcasing substantial gains in energy efficiency compared to conventional approaches
