93% of uranium was extracted from Elliot Lake uranium ore by sulfuric acid leaching, but the leaching residue also contains a small amount of uranium and radioactive isotopes, including radium, which will cause serious public hazards. At the same time, the heavy metals and pyrite contained in the gangue are also present in the slag. Currently, 1,000 acres of land in the lake area are covered by these tailings, which contain about 5 million tons of pyrite.
