Abstract

The U.S. Department of Energy is drafting a waste heat recovery plan. It plans to start with the use of hot water discharged from three existing uranium enrichment plants and a plutonium production plant, and then expand to other waste heat utilization. This plan was drawn up when the 1981 budget was drawn up. It is estimated that using the waste heat generated by the four nuclear plants can save 20 million barrels of oil per year.
